This week's Instagram Reels trends are wheel-cleaning ASMR, Tesla used as the punchline, mom hacks and gym humour — four formats that broke out for several unrelated creators at the same time. Between 19 and 21 October 2026 our index collected 772 new Reels from 196 tracked creators and named 97 new trend entries. We call something a trend here only when two or more creators who have nothing to do with each other beat their own 180-day median with it.

Key takeaways

  • Wheel cleaning and restoration: 22.0M views at 302× the creator's normal (@geeky_detail_reviews), 8.3M at 525× (@_riderevive).
  • Tesla as the joke, not the product: 18.0M (82×), 12.4M (289×) and an 18× BMW-vs-Tesla clip from a 5,872-follower account.
  • Mom hacks: 10.9M (36×) and 9.0M (28×) from two different parenting accounts.
  • Gym humour: 7.2M views at 208× from an account with 17,334 followers.
  • Comedy is the biggest niche (22 of 97 trends); 16 of the 97 trend names are POV formats.
  • Counts are as of 21 October 2026; the newest posts are still climbing.

1. Wheel cleaning and restoration — the week's strongest format

Two unrelated detailing accounts broke out with the same idea: a filthy wheel taken back to clean metal. @geeky_detail_reviews reached 21,955,785 views — 302× its usual 72,684 — with a deep-clean our breakdown files as satisfying ASMR. @_riderevive, with 5,312 followers, reached 8,322,483 views on a rusty-to-reflective wheel, 525× its usual 15,850.

Why it travels: a before-and-after has a built-in ending, so the viewer stays to see it, and the sound of the work carries the clip without a voiceover. Any service with a visible end state can run it — detailing, cleaning, repair, alterations.

2. Tesla as the punchline

  • @chrisashley — a running-late joke with a Tesla Roadster — 18,042,693 views, 82× his usual.
  • @lemon_tunes — "POV: Uber with a new Tesla" — 12,361,637 views, 289× the account's usual.
  • @sircolgate — BMW 340i vs Tesla — 202,356 views on 5,872 followers, 18× his usual.

None of the three is a car review. The car is the setup for a joke about being late, about rideshares or about a rivalry — which is why it reaches people who do not care about cars. For a car business the transferable part is the comedy frame, not the spec sheet.

3. Mom hacks

@ira.motherhood's organic "makeup" for toddlers reached 10,901,979 views (36× its usual) and @vita_momhack's baby-item hacks reached 9,011,034 (28×). Both name a small, concrete parenting problem and solve it in one clip — the parenting version of the problem → solution format that also worked in beauty this week (@albina's cakey-makeup fix, 12.5M views, 27×).

4. Gym humour — and a small account's breakout

@nikhilksehgal, with 17,334 followers, reached 7,166,214 views — 208× his usual — with a gym-muscles-versus-a-real-fight joke. @colebell0's gym-lighting reveal did 889,741 views, 31× his usual. The gym is a shared setting most viewers recognise instantly, so the joke needs no setup.

5. POV is everywhere in comedy

16 of this week's 97 trend names are POV formats, and 9 of the 22 comedy trends are. The biggest: @evanbodycomb's costume-day disappointment (18.7M, 15×), @colecaked's "humans are obsessed with rectangles" (10.4M, 12×) and @clickupcomedy's attitude-based-on-pay (3.2M, 11×). POV works because the viewer is cast as the main character in the first line of text.

For brands: three formats that sold the product

  • Slow product reveal — @sweetbloomingblossoms' luxury bouquet with a tiara: 702,001 views, 18× its usual.
  • DIY install — @builtwithtools' copper shower: 1,889,978 views, 18× its usual.
  • Talking head with a text overlay — @fahaadk_: 5,402,846 views, 66× his usual.

What is trending on Instagram Reels this week?

For 14–21 October 2026: wheel-cleaning and restoration clips, comedy that uses a Tesla as the punchline, mom hacks and gym humour — each broke out for two or more unrelated creators. POV formats carry a large share of comedy.

How do you decide what counts as a Reels trend?

A format counts only when two or more unrelated creators beat their own 180-day median with it in the same week. One viral video is an outlier; the same format working for several accounts is a trend you can copy.

Which Reels niche had the most trends this week?

Comedy, with 22 of the 97 trends we named, followed by auto (12), music (9), parenting (8) and food (8).
